Altamont , TN

Northcutt Cove Chapel is thought to be the oldest church-house of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Southeast. The land upon which the church stands was donated by John Tipton, and in 1909 the current wood frame church was constructed. The chapel soon “became a center for disseminating Latter-day Saint teachings in the state.” Northcutt Cove Chapel was designated as the headquarters for the Church’s East Tennessee Conference, and has been listed on the National Register of Historic Places since 1979.
