Located in the town of New Hope, near the Tennessee River in Marion County, the Virgin of the Poor Shrine is a Roman Catholic replica of a shrine in Belgium that is devoted to the Virgin Mary. The shrine in Belgium is built upon a site where the Virgin Mary is said to have appeared beginning in 1933. Dedicated in 1983, the Marion County shrine is located on 600 acres and is home to a statue of the Virgin Mary which was purchased in Banneux, Belgium. The construction was completed by local craftsmen under the direction of Fr. Basil Mattingly, a Benedictine monk.  A devotion to the Virgin Mary is celebrated at the shrine every Sunday afternoon at 2:00pm (CST) from May to October. The shrine is open from sunrise to sunset every day.

Directions: From I-24 at South Pittsburgh take SR 156 East 2.2 miles to Burns Island Road. Left one mile, follow the shrine signs.
