Chattanooga African-American History Museum
The Chattanooga African-American Museum, founded in 1983, is dedicated to the preservation and dissemination of the local history and culture of Africans and Americans of African descent. The museum has, in a very brief time, become a principal and valuable reservoir of primary and secondary source materials on almost every aspect of the social, cultural, religious, political and economic history of Black Americans, and it effectively portrays African-American contributions to the growth of Chattanooga and the nation. The museum has become a recognized education institution. Its facilities are utilized daily by a rainbow coalition of Chattanooga's school children, adults, scholars and out-of-town visitors. It boasts a unique collection of rare artifacts - African art, newspapers. Parking is free while you visit the museum. |
