With (20) acres of corn planted and their new mind-boggling design now created, the  (Fetzer) family is bringing the “MAiZE craze” back to Ocoee , Tennessee .  The popular "River Maze", that drew thousands of visitors last fall, will once again get curious maze-goers  llost when it opens to the public on September 23, 2006 at 10am. Part of an increasingly popular “agritainment” trend, it will be joined this year by more than 160 affiliated Maize sites across the United States , Canada and Europe .

The Fetzer family, in partnership with maze designer Brett Herbst - the world’s leading designer of 600+ corn mazes - hopes to give even more people a chance to experience the unique source of good farmin’ fun in their newly-designed labyrinth. This year’s design is in the shape of the United States with a whitewater raft in the middle.  Though the correct pathways can be walked in under 45 minutes, most directionally - challenged visitors - adults and children alike - will require about 1.5 hours to travel through more than two miles of twists and turns and 85 decision points.

The maze will give visitors the chance to "get lost" September 20-November 2.

Hours: 5pm-9pm Friday, 11am-9pm Saturday, 1pm-5pm Sunday.
Field trip hours, during weekdays, are available by reservation.

Cost: $7 for ages 13 and up, $6 for ages 4-12, and FREE for kids under 4.
Discounts are offered for groups and field trips. This is subject to change.

Ways To Enjoy The River Maze
In an ongoing effort to ensure that The River Maze experience offers something for everyone, the public will find an increased number of ways to experience the maze this year:

  • Open both day and night, The RIVER MAZE caters to school field trips during the day and has created an education campaign that includes: customized lesson plans and activity sheets for teachers, discounted field trip opportunities, on-site educational displays, and a  “passport” that integrates education into the maze experience and helps guide students along the correct pathway. Field trips can be scheduled by reservation.
  • Interactive “passports” are available for groups and the general public. Each contains ten questions that quiz the user on a chosen subject, and those who answer the questions correctly will receive clues that guide them along the correct path to the exit. Subjects include sports, boy scouting, girl scouting, scriptural, American history, and interactive.
  • This year special days are set aside especially for Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts.  "Girl Scout Day: will be September 30.  Boy Scout and Cub Scout Day will be October 7.  On this day scouts will get discount prices and a free scout patch.
  • In an effort to make the experience as easy or as hard as visitors want it to be, the maze has been divided into two phases: beginner, and expert. Participants will have the option to continue on to the next phase or exit the maze at the entrance to each level.
  • The River Maze offers other activities such as hayrides, bonfires, picnics, corn cannons, farm animals, and the cow train!
