In 1907, the State Department of Institutions purchased the 9,000 acre tract of land originally known as the 'Herbert Domain.' In 1933 Governor McAllister proclaimed 6,656 acres of this tract as the Bledsoe State Forest, named after Bledsoe County. The remaining 2,444 acres was retained by the Department of Institutions and is the site of the Bledsoe Regional Correctional Facility.

In 1934, a Civilian Conservation Corps(CCC) camp was established and remained on the forest until 1940. Several buildings, roads, and trails were constructed during this time. The CCC planted hundreds of thousands of trees which make up many of the pine stands that you see on the forest today.

Bledsoe State Forest is managed under the multiple-use concept. Management objectives include timber production, wildlife conservation, forest research and experimentation, watershed protection, forest recreation and promotion of conservation education.

Hunting & Fishing: Both are permitted according to TWRA regulations (See Statewide Hunting and Fishing Guides)

Hiking: Presently 3 1/2 miles are under reconstruction.

Multi use roads may be used by 4-wheelers, dirt bikes and horses. Maps are available at the park office.  Drivers are asked to stay off fields, trails and right-of-ways.

Directions: Bledsoe State Forest can be reached by traveling State Route 30, approximately 8 1/2 miles west of Pikeville towards Fall Creek Falls State Park.
