Savage Gulf State Park
Tennessee has a new state park, and it’s an area that has split from another state park! Savage Gulf State Park used to be part of South Cumberland State Park, but it deserves its own title.
Located in Grundy and Sequatchie counties, this new park will feature the almost 19000-acre Savage Gulf State Natural Area. The park offers approximately 60 miles of hiking to remarkable vistas, waterfalls, and historical locations such as the Stagecoach Road.
The highlight of the new park is the Great Stone Door, which is an impressive cliff line overlook. It gets its name from top-to-bottom crack in the cliff that runs from the top to the bottom, resembling a door left slightly ajar.
Savage Gulf has nine backcountry campgrounds (Hobbs, Dinky Line, Savage Falls, Stagecoach Road, Collin West, Savage Station, Alum Gap, Sawmill, and Stone Door) that can be reserved online.
