Looking for a safe place to take the family for a bike ride? Southeast Tennessee has plenty of car-free recreation paths that are perfect for a leisurely bike ride without having to worry about traffic.

Cleveland / Bradley County Greenway
This beautiful Greenway runs through Cleveland for four miles with no street crossings and is lighted 24/7, making it an excellent option for exploring the city by bike.

Mountain Goat Trail
The Mountain Goat Trail is a multi-modal rail-trail that connects communities along the historic path of the Mountain Goat Railroad, which carried coal and passengers between communities on the South Cumberland Plateau from 1856 to 1985.

The 5-mile section of trail begins in downtown Sewanee and ends at Mountain Outfitters in Monteagle. The best place to park in Sewanee is in the gravel lot on Highway 41A at Hawkins Lane. (Note: The Mountain Goat Trail in Sewanee is part of the 20+-mile Perimeter Trail around the University Domain, which is why it’s labeled that way on Google Maps.) In Monteagle, park at Mountain Outfitters to access the trail.

The 3-mile section of trail in Tracy City, Tenn., can be accessed from Tracy City Old Roundhouse Park and Tracy City Elementary School.

Following a former railroad bed, this gravel trail winds nearly 5 miles through the woods and rural landscape before ending at the outskirts of Englewood, Tenn.

Brainerd Levee

This path is 5.5 miles from the trailhead at Shallowford Road in Brainerd to Camp Jordan Park in East Ridge, and is is gravel for 3.5 miles and paved for 2 miles.

Chattanooga Riverwalk

The most popular rec path in the region is the 13-mile Chattanooga Riverwalk, which follows the Tennessee River from the Chickamauga Dam all the way to the foot of Lookout Mountain. The Riverwalk also provides access to the South Chickamauga Creek Greenway, which provides another 3.5 miles of scenic cycling alongside the creek.
